History repeating itself on issue of protection

When I was a young man 57 years of age, on March 23, 1983, President Ronald Reagan proposed creation of "SDI" (Strategic Defense Initiative), an ambitious project that would construct a space-based anti-ballistic missile system for the protection of our country.

Democrats and their media cheerleaders response was to laugh and ridicule Reagan and mocked the proposition, calling it "Star Wars" and assured us that it wouldn't work and was far too expensive.

Reagan persisted and despite being publicly ridiculed by his political foes, it led to our anti-ballistic missile system and a safer country.

Here we are 35 years later and the same scenario is being played out. But this time the idea for protecting our country is "the wall," and the man being mocked for wanting it built for the security of our nation is President Donald Trump. As with Reagan and "Star Wars", Trump is facing politically motivated opposition to building the wall and is ridiculed by the Democrats and their media cheerleaders, who maintain it will not improve our safety and is far too expensive.

Conclusion? Indeed, history sometimes does repeat itself.
