Arrest of Stone was outrageous abuse of power

Judge Andrew Napolitano has written a recent opinion piece, titled "An American Nightmare," that should scare the heck out of every thoughtful American. It involves the incredibly excessive use of force by the FBI to arrest a peaceful American citizen for a nonviolent crime for purely political purposes.

Roger Stone is a 66-year-old public figure who has never been accused of violence but is involved in the highly political "Russian collusion" investigation of the Trump campaign. At 6 a.m., 29 highly armed FBI agents in 17 vehicles (two of them armored), 2 boats, and a helicopter surrounded Mr. Stone's house to arrest him for lying to Congress and other nonviolent crimes.

The fact that CNN happened to be there to film this massive "Gestapo" type assault on a peaceful American citizen should tell you all you need to know, this was all about politics and to impact the American people's opinions. To show you how abusive and unreasonable this invasion was, the judge in the case let Mr. Stone free with no bail based solely on his promise to show up for court.

That would never be done if the court had any concern that the arrested person represented any risk to the public. The greatest threat to democracy that there is involves the abuse of power by the government against an America citizen for political purposes. Having a highly weaponized "army" invade a peaceful American citizen's home to wake up a 66-year-old unarmed man in shorts and a tee shirt and his wife who is deaf is the clearest example we have seen in a long time of an immoral abuse of power.

The American people should be outraged.
