New lawmakers, push for infrastructure upgrade

Congratulations to the many newly elected state legislators from the Western and Northwestern suburbs. Reps. Deanne Mazzochi, Mark Walker, Amy Grant, Joyce Mason, Terra Costa Howard (my rep.), Karine Villa and Anne Stava-Murray and Sens. Suzy Glowiak (my senator), Ann Gillespie and Laura Ellman, thank you for running for office and helping push for real solutions in Springfield.

One area that desperately needs your attention is our transportation infrastructure. It has been 10 years since Illinois has invested in a comprehensive capital construction program. Our roads, bridges and transit systems are in a state of disrepair today, and will soon be in much worse shape as we continue to use them each and every day. We are paying more in car repairs, wasted fuel, lost time in traffic jams and accidents and blown tires - all because of our bumpy, crowded and outdated roadways and transit systems.

It's time to improve the quality of life in our state. It's time to embrace economic growth. It's time to make government more accountable and transparent for what we spend on transportation. It's time again to invest in Illinois by investing in our infrastructure.

You have a tremendous opportunity to put Illinois on a better path in your first legislative session. We look forward to working with you on a new capital plan that will set our state in the right direction and help you turn the electoral promises into action that will make our roads and bridges safer and our economy stronger.
