A blinding contrast
Our 41st president, George H.W. Bush was a class act. His devotion to public life, duty and service is well documented. He was a beacon of everything you would expect our president to project toward our country, our allies and our enemies. Whether you were a Republican, Democrat or Independent, you respected the office of the president and the person who occupied it, even if you didn't agree with his policies.
The man who occupies the office now is not respected by the majority of Americans and most of our allies. The contrast between both men is blinding. Most presidents grow into the enormity of the job. Trump has shown that he has not and never will fill the shoes of any past president. Maybe we should be thinking of a woman for 2020 who will be willing and able to fill those shoes. Who will grow into the enormity of the job. All we can do is hope and pray that the next president will work at bringing our country together. Much has to be done to unite us with our allies and demonstrate leadership once again around the world.
At this time of mourning for our 41st president, we can only reflect on the contrast between Bush and Trump. We need to bring back respect for the office and the person who occupies it, but respect has to be earned.
