The perversion of democracy

With the end of this midterm election, it is now evident that our political processes have completely run amok. Civil debate among opponents has been supplanted by toxic vilification. Foes are now felons. What's good for the country plays second fiddle to what's good for the party.

Supported by Citizens United, the uber-wealthy, in an unquenched thirst for power, infuse vast sums of money into campaigns in the attempt to exert influence for their greedy ambitions and self-promotion. Thus, the corrupt legislative process, where contributions have magically translated into laws, has now spilled over into the campaign system itself.

Rampant corruption now envelops our democracy. As a result, we the citizenry are subjected to a sickening onslaught of endless commercials portraying opposing candidates with demonic traits. Orwellian doublespeak prevails. Politicians no longer feel the need to be guided by any semblance of the truth. The country is led by the Great Prevaricator. Darkness and fear abound and can only be eradicated by enlightenment and moral strength.

Perhaps, new leadership will shine a light on the darkness, and political courage can lead us in the right direction. We can only hope.
