Press now for action on guns

When is enough enough? How many shootings will it take for change to happen? Look what's happened just in the last few months - the Kroger store, the synagogue, the yoga studio, the country bar, daily shootings in Chicago - 307 shootings this year involving four or more people. Shame on the president and shame on Congress for continuing to do nothing to help resolve or at least lessen this pariah that plagues our country.

The majority of people want some kind of sensible gun legislation, including background checks and registering guns. Our president pretended to care when he met with the Parkland students and vowed to do something. Nothing changed. He talked about regulating bump stocks after Vegas. Nothing changed. Getting guns in this country is too easy. Gun owners talk about their Second Amendment rights to own guns and reject any additional regulations but something has to change.

What about the victims' rights to have lived a long and healthy life? How sad that a friend of mine's kindergarten class (or any classroom for that matter) has to lose instruction time to practice for an "active shooter."

Contact your senators and congressional reps and demand that background checks be put in place for all gun purchases, that AR-15s are restricted, that multiple-round magazines and bump stocks are banned, that all guns are registered and that stiffer penalties are put in place for guns that are acquired illegally. Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone put more importance on saving and protecting lives rather than protecting "gun rights."
