Endorsement: Cowart for Kane County Board District 13

Democrat Lark Cowart and Republican Steve Weber, both of St. Charles, are vying for the Kane County Board District 13 seat held by Philip Lewis, who was beaten by Weber in the March Republican primary. Weber, 40, a vice president of sales, describes himself as "very conservative." He calls for eliminating waste and consolidating government functions to maintain the county's property tax freeze. Cowart, 41, who worked for Kane County as assistant state's attorney for 14 years, witnessed the impact of across-the-board budget cuts and believes county programs can be funded with a budget surplus. Both candidates are well-informed and capable, but Cowart's legal background and county experience give her an edge. Cowart is endorsed.
