Our world truly is worth saving

Thank you for your well-written, though alarming, account of a recent Trump administration report that sought to justify its reckless decisions on greenhouse gases. ("Our world is worth trying to save.") Add that to a recent forecast from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that we are losing the fight to keep global warming to a moderate level and that "rapid and far-reaching" transformations are required, speedily.

There is a way forward: a plan called Carbon Fee and Dividend. This policy, now gaining traction in Congress, is a revenue neutral way to price fossil fuels at their source (well, mine or port of entry). The net fees are then returned to American households. The plan would send a clear signal to existing businesses to invest in a clean-energy economy and thus drastically cut U.S. carbon emissions. A border adjustment would assess a fee on goods traded with countries without a comparable carbon price.

Since this is a market-based approach, it is supported by groups such as The Climate Leadership Council and Americans for Carbon Dividends.

It is also supported by hundreds of Citizens Climate Lobby volunteers who heartily agree with your headline: "Our world is worth trying to save"!
