Endorsement: Daily Herald backs Lewis over Cullerton in Illinois Senate District 23

Senate Dist. 23: Lewis

Republic Seth Lewis of Bartlett has run for the state legislature two times before. We're hoping the third time is the charm.

The race this year in Illinois Senate District 23 is a rematch from the contest four years ago between Lewis and Democrat Thomas Cullerton, who went on to win.

Both Lewis and Cullerton espoused similarly moderate views and bipartisanship then, and they still do today.

In a close call, Cullerton received our endorsement then. In a close call this year, we give it to Lewis.

Active in Bartlett community affairs such as youth sports and the fire district, Lewis has the business insights of an engineer.

Most importantly, he strikes us as a supremely decent and straightforward person. Springfield could use more of them.

We like Cullerton. The former Villa Park village president has been a noteworthy public servant. But it's time to give Lewis a chance, and we warmly endorse him.
