Endorsement: Daily Herald backs Howard over Breen in Illinois House District 48

House Dist. 48: Howard

The divisive battle for Illinois House District 48 features candidates on opposite ends of the political spectrum. Republican incumbent Peter Breen of Lombard ranks among the General Assembly's most conservative members, and Democratic challenger Terra Costa Howard of Glen Ellyn argues that his views on social issues - including abortion - are out of step with the district. We too share concerns about some of Breen's votes and tactics. Plus, we're impressed by Howard's passion and her advocacy for the district. We believe her background as a lawyer, certified mediator and past member and president of the Glen Ellyn Elementary District 41 school board gives her added insight as well as experience in seeking compromise. We endorse Howard.
