Endorsement: Daily Herald recommends Olsen over Stava-Murrary for Illinois House District 81

The state representative in the 81st House District is guaranteed to be a millennial. The race pits incumbent Republican David Olsen, 30, a 2016 appointee, against Democrat Anne Stava-Murray, 32, a former market research manager turned community organizer. But age is where their similarities end. Olsen is well financed by the GOP and is an advocate of further efficiencies through consolidation, something we've supported. Stava-Murray eschewed party support when she learned she wouldn't have autonomy over advertising messaging. We're intrigued by Stava-Murray's intelligence and her desire for Michael Madigan to step down as Speaker, but her position on legalizing recreational use of marijuana for adults to help solve the school funding problem seems out of step with voters in a district that includes southernmost DuPage County. We endorse Olsen.
