Endorsement: Daily Herald backs Lesser over Morgan for Illinois House District 58

The Republican Party called on former Lake Bluff village board member Frederic "Rick" Lesser to fill the GOP spot on the November ballot when Cindy Masover pulled out of the race after the primary. It was a good choice.

Lesser's local-government experience and background as a real estate attorney give him strong insight into the workings of government and an understanding of the complex challenges of the state's property tax and pension problems - as well as a sense of urgency on the need to solve them.

He faces a smart centrist Democrat in Bob Morgan, of Deerfield,

Morgan focuses much of his campaign on what he calls a "fight for our values" on issues like immigration and health care policy, and he takes a cautiously studied approach to revenue issues like property taxes, graduated income tax and the gasoline tax.

Lesser, however, offers the best chance for providing balance in the coming debates over all these matters and we endorse him.
