Why can't neighborhood kids play at Timber Ridge School?

I read with interest Greg Larsen's letter to Fencepost about spending money on upgrades to Olympic Pool when we already have a pool at Prospect High School that is empty a great deal of the time. He points out that local schools allow public access to their playground facilities when school is not in session.

This may be true throughout Arlington Heights, but is not the case at Timber Ridge School on Evanston Avenue. The neighborhood children used to be able to play there when school was not in session. However, a couple of years ago, when the playground was upgraded, the school began to lock it up.

It's pretty sad, as the very little ones couldn't understand that they could look at this playground but not play on it. I'm sure there is a reason. Maybe NSSEO gets a discount on insurance by reducing access to the neighborhood. But no intergovernmental agreement here!
