Geyer got it right
It was refreshing to read he commentary by Georgie Anne Geyer on the need for rational immigration policy.
Having just returned from a European tour and having listened to experts on the issue, it is apparent that Europe has the same struggle to manage the immigration crisis as we have.
Europe is leaning to the right as the U.S. is because of the issue. Ms. Geyer's statement says it all: "Nation-states are absolutely necessary for the peace and prosperity of the world as it is organized, and those states have not only the right, but the responsibility, to maintain stable societies."
Europe has the problem of having to bring all 16 countries together to have a unified approach to the issue.
Our Congress in Washington has to look beyond political gamesmanship and act now to fix our crisis, which is currently benefiting only the drug cartels that ship 80 percent of their drugs across the Mexican border.
It is the root cause of the mayhem and death on the South Side of Chicago.
