Letter: Fearmongering rhetoric a reminder of the past

I received a letter from a political organization asking me to send money to keep those "radical left anti-Christian" candidates from being elected to Congress. They also wanted me to sign a form letter that will be sent to Donald Trump to express thanks and support for what they called his accomplishments.

I don't plan to send money or to sign something with which I disagree but found the letter disturbing. It was full of inflammatory rhetoric, dubious statistics and outright lies and implied that if you don't support Trump's policies, you are un-American, anti-Christian and unpatriotic.

A stated objective of this group is to politically mobilize conservative Christians, and they are creating hysteria and leveraging fear to manipulate these people. Those who remember their history lessons will agree that this technique is frightening.
