Bikers, walkers must share trails

We have a nice bike trail running along the Fox River from St. Charles to Aurora. I regularly use this trail both to walk and bike. It is a multipurpose trail, even though we all call it the bike trail. I see arrogant behavior on the part of bicyclists and walkers. We all need to share the trail.

Bicyclists, it is not the Tour de France, that is in France and is on public roads, NOT bike trails. The trail is not very wide and bicyclists should not ride side by side. Bicyclists should warn pedestrians when they approach from behind. Most of the time bicyclists do warn pedestrians. To my knowledge there have been no pedestrians run over by bikes. If you must stop and check your phone please get off the trail.

Pedestrians seem to be in their own little world milling about and taking up two thirds of the trail. They seem surprised, even startled when a bike signals from behind.

Pay attention, you are not the only one on the trail. Walkers need to stay to the right and not walk more than two abreast. Teach your kids to share and not take up the whole trail. Teach them to be aware of their surroundings. If you must stop to attend to your children please get off the trail. There are signs saying bikes share the trail. I do not see any signs for pedestrians to share the trail.

How about signs applying to both bikers and pedestrians to share the trail? We all need to do more sharing.
