Let's get going on Des Plaines Theater project

After its initial closing in 1998, the Des Plaines Theater has had a tumultuous past 20 years. It was closed twice and then reopened twice, before it finally closed down in 2014 because the building was deemed "unsafe."

This theater is nearly 100 years old and its walls hold so many stories, passionate performances and an undeniable charisma. Originally used for vaudevillian shows in its 1925 debut, it evolved into a platform for East Indian movies.

This theater is something that makes the small town of Des Plaines unique. After the removal of the first McDonald's franchise, and more and more stores leaving downtown, Des Plaines seems to be quickly evolving into a ghost town. The restoration of the theater would surely spike business and restaurant interests.

Our town can be so much better, (but) the longer we wait, the harder it becomes. The people of Des Plaines urge the mayor to make good on his promise, and restore our theater.
