Term limits for leaders makes sense

The Feb. 8 Daily Herald contained a story about a bill sponsored by state Rep. Thomas Bennett that would impose term limits on leadership positions in both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly. While not a fan of blanket term limits for members of the legislature, I do believe the idea has merit regarding leadership positions.

It might be politically risky for Democrats in the Illinois House and Senate to get behind such a measure, but I suspect that doing so would earn the respect and support of many, perhaps even a majority, of their constituents - just not Messrs. Cullerton and Madigan. On the bright side, however, such a measure could include the office of the governor.
