Statues are part of our past

I do not believe that taking down statues is the proper thing to do. It is part of our past, even if it is a good or bad past. I see no problem with a Confederate statue of a general that fought for what he believed was right. I do not agree with what he fought for, but it is part of our past.

I do not see anyone taking down General Custer statues. He slaughtered Indians. I guess statues get taken down only if you get loud protesters and you have wimpy politicians who do not want to offend people because they want to get re-elected.

If a statue offends some people and they want it taken down, they should have to get it on a ballot and let the people of that area vote on it. If the majority want it out, then take it out. But if the majority want it to stay, it should stay.

I guess this would be too easy because there would be nothing to protest against.
