Buffalo Grove pledges to remain a welcoming community

We wish to thank Village President Beverly Sussman and our village board for their proactive steps in ensuring that Buffalo Grove remains a welcoming and nondiscriminatory community, with the passage of a Resolution to Support the Welcoming and Inclusive Community Pledge on April 17, 2017.

The statement affirms the commitment of the village to "promote our core American value that no one should be targeted because of their racial, ethnic, immigration or refugee status, religion, sexual orientation, or other social identities."

We met with Village President Sussman and Police Chief Steven R. Casstevens last month to discuss concerns raised by the ACLU regarding the protection of undocumented immigrants within our communities from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

We were reassured to learn of policies already in place within our police department to negate targeting of undocumented residents, and that Buffalo Grove has joined hundreds of communities throughout the United States and Canada, including many in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, in its adoption of the pledge.

We are grateful that our Village Board has committed to keeping Buffalo Grove a welcoming and tolerant community for us all.
