An interview with Janine Wilson, President of Sackett Systems

Q: Describe your company. What product(s) do you make and what are they used for?

A: Sackett Systems is a leading worldwide supplier of quality, durable lift truck/forklift battery management equipment as well as a solution provider for warehouse operations. We are an industry pioneer and the innovator of lifting beams, transfer carts and operator aboard battery exchange systems. Our business has been operating since 1897, with products completely engineered and manufactured in the United States.

Located in Bensenville, we serve customers worldwide, including manufacturing plants, distribution centers and third-party logistics companies. In addition, we collaborate with battery and forklift manufacturers and dealers to serve our mutual customers.

Sackett Systems has a long legacy of innovation and quality, and we have experienced a 41% growth rate over the past three years. Our innovative warehouse solutions reduce our customers' total cost of ownership, maximize their productivity and minimize their downtime.

As a testament to our success, recently village President Frank DeSimone presented Sackett Systems CEO Leonard Maniscalco with the Certificate of Achievement in recognition of our 125th anniversary. He said: "Bensenville is proud to have Sackett Systems here for 125 years. Thank you for being a great community partner."

Q: Describe the process of making your products.

A: We design, engineer, manufacture and support operator-aboard battery extractors, battery stands, transfer carts, gantry cranes, battery wash equipment, automated systems, and accessories. Our NEW Emerald Battery Exchange is completely electric powered, with push/pull battery extractor, height adjustment and powered travel.

In addition to equipment manufacturing, we offer turnkey warehouse solutions and quick-ship replacement parts to keep our customers' warehouse operations running smoothly. We stay at the forefront of the industry to help customers stay one step ahead on safety and technology.

Q: Do you plan to hire any additional staff or make any significant capital investments in your company in the next year?

Q: Do you have enough space in your current facility or are you looking to expand/find a new facility?

A: Sackett Systems is currently in a good position with regard to location and facilities. The village of Bensenville has been an extraordinary partner and we look forward to many years to come.

Q: What will your company's main challenges be in the next year?

A: Labor shortages at our customers' operations and cost increases in raw materials, freight and tariffs are our main challenges for 2023.

Q: What's the hottest trend in your industry?

A: Equipment leasing has come into its own as the logistics and the warehousing industry grows and adapts to demand.

Q: What is one interesting fact about your company that most people may not know?

A: Sackett Systems began in 1897 as a manufacturer of coal loading and screening equipment.

A: Primarily the people. Being located in the Chicago suburbs, we've had access to a pool of very talented and innovative individuals that have truly made our company grow and excel all these years. In addition, the Chicago area excels as a manufacturing and transportation hub. Our central location in Bensenville gives us the ability to efficiently access and serve our customers.

Q: If you could make any product other than what you do make, what would it be?

A: Leveraging our spirit of innovation, talented team and cutting-edge manufacturing facilities, we have the ability to manufacture other products. We plan to expand our product offerings to support our clients' manufacturing plants, distribution centers and third-party logistics operations.
