A billing software error sent statements containing the personal health information of over 1,600 Advocate Aurora patients to one customer on or around July 29 of this year -- but the hospital system says the mail never arrived at its destination.

Advocate Aurora said in a Tuesday news release that it is not aware of improper use of patient information because of this error, but asks all affected patients -- who have been notified of the data leak -- to review their financial accounts and report suspicious activity immediately.

For more information, patients should call (866) 271-3084 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, or between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
