Pharmacist wins award for COVID vaccination training

Lawrence Lernor of Woodridge recently received the "Dr. Floyd Mizener Friend of Optometry" award during the 123rd annual meeting of the Illinois Optometric Association.

Lernor graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy and became a registered pharmacist in 1981. For the last 17 years, he has worked at Costco Wholesale as the pharmacy manager.

Over the last 14 years, he has given between 14 and 19 thousand vaccinations. He was instrumental in teaching over 100 doctors become certified to assist in the COVID-19 vaccination efforts. After optometrists were given the authority to administer COVID-19 vaccinations, Lernor assisted optometrists in Illinois by teaching courses on how to perform intramuscular injections.

The Dr. Floyd Mizener Friend of Optometry award is presented to an individual who, without being an optometrist, best exemplifies the spirit of optometry by serving the profession, its patients, and the eye care needs of the public.
