Motorola revenue at $1.8 billion in third quarter

CHICAGO - Motorola Solutions Inc. has reported third-quarter net income of $205 million. The communications equipment maker posted revenue of $1.87 billion in the period, exceeding Wall Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.83 billion.

The Chicago-based company said it had net income of $1.18 per share. Earnings, adjusted to extinguish debt and for amortization costs, were $1.95 per share.

The results also topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.76 per share.

For the current quarter ending in December, Motorola expects its per-share earnings to range from $2.71 to $2.76. The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $7.52 to $7.58 per share.

Motorola shares have risen 1% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased 2.5%.
