New restaurant and brew pub on tap in downtown Bartlett

The Bartlett City Council on Tuesday cleared the way for a new restaurant and brew pub to be built on a vacant spot downtown.

The site plan for More Brewing Company to put a restaurant at the southeast corner of Railroad and South Oak avenues passed with little discussion.

"The board has seen the plan; we're all in agreement and excited about it," Assistant Village Administrator Scott Skrycki said after the meeting.

Ordinance variations to the plan include an elimination of the required off-street parking spaces and a reduction of the required open space surrounding the building.

"It's the way development has been trending," Skrycki said.

The plan also fits with the village's Transit Oriented Development plan focused on increasing foot traffic and walkability in the downtown area near the Metra station, he said.

As for parking, nearly 750 spaces in the Metra lot are free in the evening and on weekends in addition to other free parking in the area.

"We had a similar bar there before and it worked out just fine," Skrycki said.

The corner was previously the site of Lucky Jack's, a bar that closed in 2012. Bartlett acquired the property in April 2018 and had the building on the site demolished.

More Brewing Company's plan includes an 8,000-square-foot restaurant with first- and second-floor outdoor patios facing Railroad Avenue and indoor dining and a mezzanine dining area. It will serve alcohol and also sell packaged, locally brewed beer.

The group operates a successful restaurant in Villa Park and plans to open an additional location in Huntley, Skrycki said.

More Brewing Company hopes to break ground this fall with a planned opening in the spring or summer.
