Ice cream parlor opening in Wheeling within two months

A new ice cream parlor could be opening within a couple of months in Wheeling.

Village trustees approved plans this week for La Michoacana de Tocumbo to open in a shopping center at 35 W. Dundee Road, near the intersection with Wolf Road. Owner Eliseo Chavez told trustees the ice cream parlor could be open in six weeks to eight weeks.

The ice cream shop opened a location in Chicago about a month ago and is working on another location in Waukegan, Chavez said. That location may not open for up to six months because the company bought a building to renovate, Chavez said.

At the Wheeling location, there will be seating for 14 people in the 1,200-square-foot unit of the shopping center. It will be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
