Highland Park officials clear way for redevelopment project

HIGHLAND PARK: The Highland Park City Council approved all zoning-related considerations for the redevelopment of 515 Roger Williams Ave. at its Dec. 10 city council meeting, officials said in a news release Tuesday.

Klairmont Investments wanted to purchase the parking lot that abuts the 515 Roger Williams Ave. site from the Ravinia Housing Association for $70,000. The RHA, a subsidiary of the city of the Highland Park Housing Commission and the city council, approved the parking lot sale earlier this year.

The sale is anticipated to be complete this winter. Redevelopment of the site is anticipated to begin in the spring.

The proposed redevelopment will consist of a four-story, 30-unit residential mixed-use building with more than 5,000 square feet of ground floor commercial space. The mixed-use building will be constructed in the Ravinia Business District, where the Ravinia Streetscape Improvement Project is underway.

The city recently completed a gateway and wayfinding signage program in the district, and new street lighting installation is planned for 2019. Investment in the district is anticipated to leverage additional private investment there and foster a welcoming and vibrant mixed-use neighborhood.
