Two join Family Shelter Service board
Marilyn Marchetti and Joe Martin have joined the board of directors of Wheaton-based Family Shelter Service.
Marchetti is a retired attorney who resides in Western Springs. Her volunteer activities have included serving on the board of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an organization based in Kenya, which is devoted to elephant preservation. She also served on the Lions Township School Board and assisted the local foundation for Highlands School in LaGrange.
"The mission of Family Shelter Service is something that really attracted me," she said. "Helping women who are in dangerous situations and providing housing and other services to them really appealed to me as a volunteer opportunity."
Martin of Wheaton retired from a career of working for national health care associations focused on health care financing, public policy advocacy and leadership development.
"I would like to see the organization experience continued growth in financial resources and networks with other organizations," he said, "with a focus on safety and peace for all families throughout DuPage County and beyond," he said.
Founded in 1976, Family Shelter Service assists victims of domestic violence, helping them to rebuild their lives and break the cycle of domestic violence for themselves, their families and future generations.
