Owners of Sergio's Cantina in Geneva set to open second bar

The owners of Sergio's Cantina in downtown Geneva are getting closer to opening their second establishment, the 1910 Bar.

The plan moved forward Monday, with Geneva aldermen giving preliminary approval of a liquor license for the 1910 Bar. The council will take a binding vote next week.

The 1910 Bar will be on the second floor of the Sergio's building at 30 W. State St., replacing an apartment.

Sergio and Lindsey De Los Santos announced plans for the bar last year. They had hoped to open in November but were delayed because of a mistake made by architects for an additional stairway they put in. The stairs were not built to city code and had to be redesigned and rebuilt, Lindsey De Los Santos told aldermen.

It aims to open by the end of April.

"It's going to be more of a modern, industrial feel to it," Lindsey De Los Santos said. It will feature whiskeys, tequilas and craft beers. There will be a "small plate" menu of food.

The De Los Santoses opened Sergio's in 2007. The 1910 Bar is a separate business with a different liquor license classification (bar/tavern) from Sergio's, which has a restaurant liquor license.
