Lord and Taylor to close at Old Orchard mall

Lord & Taylor at Westfield Old Orchard Mall in Skokie is slated to close in April.

The closing was filed in the state of Illinois' WARN report, which comes out monthly and reports layoff figures. State law requires that large employers must give 60 days' notice when closing a location or laying off at least a third of their workforce. The report said the closing will cause the loss of 119 jobs.

The upscale retailer has three other suburban stores, in Northbrook Court, Oakbrook Center and Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. Employees will be offered opportunities to work at these stores, a company spokesperson said. Lord & Taylor, founded in 1826, is a subsidiary of Toronto-based Hudson's Bay, or HBC, which also owns Saks Fifth Avenue and Gilt Groupe.

The Skokie closure comes as brick-and-mortar retailers across the U.S. are faced with a challenging industry that continues to shift more and more online.

Other anchors at the Skokie mall include Bloomingdale's, Nordstrom and Macy's.
