Motorola acquires push-to-talk supplier

CHICAGO - Motorola Solutions said it is acquiring Kodiak Networks, a texas-based provider of broadband push-to-talk for commercial customers.

Terms of the acquisition were not announced.

Kodiak partners with mobile network operators globally to offer its cloud-based PTT solution and management platform, which delivers clear, reliable, instant performance over 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and 3G networks.

The acquisition of privately-held Kodiak adds a complementary, carrier-integrated PTT-over-cellular solution to Motorola Solutions' existing WAVE PTT portfolio. WAVE enables communication between smartphones, radios and computers via wireless or wireline broadband.

It also reflects Motorola Solutions' strategy to build its communications and collaboration software portfolio, and establish stronger annual recurring revenue streams.

"Kodiak has a significant presence with mobile network operators and an established reputation for providing carrier-integrated solutions that complement Motorola Solutions' software and carrier capabilities," said Bruce Brda, executive vice president, Products and Services, Motorola Solutions.

The acquisition is expected to close later this year.
