Breakfast pizzas are a specialty at new North Aurora restaurant

Lisa and Amy Randall are making it their business to give people a good start to their day.

The mother-daughter team from Batavia is serving up made-to-order breakfasts at the recently opened Breakfast Kitchens in North Aurora.

"We like to say we watch the sun come up together," joked daughter Amy Randall.

The restaurant, which focuses on the first meal of the day, offers everything from breakfast burritos and omelet's to breakfast sandwiches and breakfast pizzas. Customers select their ingredients and the Randall team makes up the order.

"Everything is made fresh," Amy Randall said, noting the restaurant's motto is "made to order breakfast on the go."

Lisa Randall decided to open the restaurant after her youngest daughter started high school. It was her parents -- who also ran a restaurant -- who encouraged her to go into the business. The recipe for breakfast pizza, which includes sausage, egg, bacon, cheese and hashbrown on a pizza dough crust, comes from her mother.

Lisa Randall said she settled on the idea of a restaurant that focuses primarily on breakfast because of the camaraderie of breakfast crowds -- and the regularity. In the five weeks the restaurant has been open, the Randalls' shop already has attracted a few regulars.

"At night you don't get to know the customers," Randall said, noting that she already knows the names of several of her customers.

"We like to make a point to know our people … to give it more of a homey feeling," added daughter, Amy, who manages the restaurant.

The duo also prides themselves on being able to whip up a made-to-order breakfast burrito or omelet in just a few minutes. Breakfast pizza takes a bit longer, but is one of the more popular dishes on the menu.

Lisa Randall has been dropping off samples of her breakfast pizza at area businesses to help introduce her restaurant. In one case, she had a few employees come into the restaurant for their own pizza shortly after she dropped off the sample.

Though breakfast is the main menu at Breakfast Kitchens, the restaurant does offer lunch items including pizzas and calzones. Some have suggested she expand her menu and stay open later, but Lisa Randall said she wants to make sure she stays focused on the restaurant's specialty.

Lisa Randall hopes to someday have a couple of other Breakfast Kitchens restaurants in the area. She is adding a new coffee machine so customers can get their cup of coffee or a latte with their meals.

Breakfast Kitchens is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sunday. The restaurant is at 352 N. Randall Road and can be reached by calling (630) 907-9100. The restaurant also offers delivery.
