Aurora church holds 17th annual cookie sale fundraiser

Women at Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora are hosting a 17th annual cookie sale fundraiser.

United Women in Faith, a women's service group, is the sponsor.

Emmy Lou John of Aurora, UWF president, said 20 church volunteer bakers are making 20 varieties of homemade cookies plus buttermints, rosettes, peanut brittle and bean soup mix.

John said each baker is making six dozen cookies, including some family favorites.

The lone male baker is Bob McKnight, specializing in chocolate chip cookies.

Boxes of pre-packed homemade cookies are $10, plates of 20 buttermints are $2, three rosettes are $2, half-pound bags of peanut brittle are $4 and bags of bean soup mix are $3.

According to John, the sale's goal is $1,000 to support UWF-sponsored programs.

Included are a diaper collection, Wesley youth group and in the past, Mutual Ground domestic violence shelter of Aurora.

Orders may be picked up from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the church, 14 N. May St. in Aurora.

For a second year, orders are being taken online at Givebutter.com/nOyxlF.

According to John, the sale had been held in-person for 15 years until the Covid pandemic forced the sale online last year.

John said, "We went online and sold out quickly."

Orders may also be made in-person at the church office, from 8 a.m. to noon weekdays. Orders must be prepaid.

No payments will be accepted at the door.

Checks or credit cards are accepted. Call (630) 264-2892 for more information.
