Letter: Representation that makes us proud
I first met Sean Casten in 2018, shortly after he was elected the Democratic nominee for the 6th congressional district. What stuck with me from our conversation that night wasn't his platform (though I agreed with it); it was a question he posed for politicians: Will our grandchildren be proud of us?
Sean's record these past two terms in office would certainly make his future grandchildren proud.
He's worked relentlessly to leave our kids and grandkids with a better planet, getting his climate legislation signed by President Biden, co-authoring a robust and achievable plan to move us toward clean energy and climate justice and securing funding for green projects right in our district, most recently for the Morton Arboretum.
In fact, just this year he delivered nearly $8 million in funding to organizations focused on improving the lives of people in our community, from creating housing for at-risk LGBTQ+ youth to addressing learning loss and the social-emotional needs of low-income K-12 students.
He's been a strong advocate for gun control, having both written and voted for common sense legislation that would keep our kids and communities safer.
He's marched right alongside us for women's rights, racial justice, and unions.
Sean Casten has certainly made me proud to support him.
Due to the recent redistricting, you may be new to the 6th congressional district. I hope you'll join me in voting for Sean in the June 28 primary, so we can continue having representation that makes us proud.
