Remember the true meaning of Memorial Day at Lombard's annual ceremony May 30

The Village of Lombard will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30.

It will begin at 10 a.m. at the Sunken Garden in Common Park, just east of the Grace and Maple streets intersection.

All community members are invited to help honor the men and women who served in our country's military as well as those who gave their lives for our freedoms.

Attendees and nearby residents are reminded that the ceremony will include a cannon fire provided by Stanford's Battery Civil War Cannon, a controlled gun salute from the Lilac Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5815, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

Due to limited parking and seating, attendees are encouraged to walk to the ceremony and bring a lawn chair, if possible.

In the event of severe weather, the village's Memorial Day Ceremony will be moved indoors to the community room at Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave.

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lilac Post 5815, American Legion Lombard Post 391, Lombard Park District, Lombard Historical Society, Lombard Junior Women's Club, Glenbard East High School, Brust Funeral Home, local Scouts and residents will be participating in the ceremony.
