Tri-Cities police will be out for extra traffic patrols

Police departments in St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia are joining forces to conduct additional traffic safety patrols beginning Monday.

The additional patrols will focus on Randall Road, Route 31, Route 25 and Kirk Road and will run through the Memorial Day holiday. The patrols are an effort to help reduce traffic crashes and enhance roadway safety.

Patrols will focus on educating motorists and enforcing traffic laws related to speed, distracted driving, driving under the influence and Scott's Law, also known as the "Move Over Law." Scott's Law requires motorists approaching an emergency vehicle on the side of the road to change lanes when they can do so safely and significantly reduce speed.

Police said the goal of the initiative is to "ensure everyone arrives safely at their destination."
