Elgin mayor recovering following complications from outpatient procedure
Elgin Mayor David Kaptain was recovering at Advocate Sherman Hospital Wednesday following complications from an outpatient procedure.
"We are grateful for the incredible staff at Advocate Sherman Hospital and care Dave has received," his wife, Sandy Kaptain, said through a news release from the city. "We are also humbled by the outpouring of support and prayers received from the community. Thank you, Elgin."
Mayor Kaptain, who has missed the last two city council meetings, was recovering from knee replacement surgery when he underwent a WATCHMAN implant, according to social media posts by Sandy Kaptain. The one-time, minimally invasive procedure is for people with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem who need an alternative to blood thinners.
Complications from that procedure landed him in the emergency room Monday night. He was kept overnight for observation, Sandy Kaptain said on Facebook.
