Huntley Area Public Library reschedules opening to Feb. 7
Editor's note: At the Jan. 20 meeting, the library board decided to extend the library's current closing period to up to Monday, Feb. 7. Additional time is needed to complete the building program. This decision was based from a few factors. The first was a roof issue that needs to be addressed at once. The second is a supply chain issue with some of the equipment and furniture needed in the renovated library. Finally, a few adjustments need to be made to the new drive-thru window before it is ready to be used. Huntley Area Public Library, which is wrapping up its two-year building program, is set to fully open to the public on Monday, Jan. 24.
During the closure, which started Dec. 31, parts of the collection are being relocated, new equipment is getting set up, staff are moving into their new spaces, and the countdown is on to explore the new library.
The community has already been utilizing one half of the new building, but it was not fully functional. Some rooms were being used for storage and office space, while others housed parts of the collection that will find a new home in the renovated building.
While the library is closed, no materials will be due and no fines will accumulate. On reopening, the library will have a drive-up book drop available 24/7 to return library materials, or users also may drop off materials inside the library during regular business hours.
The new drive-up also will be available for picking up holds during regular business hours.
Regular library services are not available, but most digital/online services are still accessible.
Beginning Jan. 24, the main entrance to the library at 11000 Ruth Road will be fully accessible. You may enter the library's parking lot via Main Street or Ruth Road and enter the library using the new main entrance. Once you are inside the building, you can explore the newly renovated area by walking through both sets of doors to the north.
To head straight to the children's library or program rooms, enter the first set of doors and take a right.

Regular library hours are: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
