Free tax help available at Gail Borden starting Jan. 27

Gail Borden Public Library will host free tax preparation services on Thursdays and Saturdays from Jan. 27 to April 16 at the main library, 270 N. Grove, Elgin.

The first two dates, Thursday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 29, will be drop-off service only as there are no in-person events taking place at the library in January.

On these two days, customers will be able to drop off their tax forms in a locked drop-off box inside the main library.

No appointments will be necessary during these two days to drop off the forms.

The Main Library is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

In-person tax preparation assistance is tentatively scheduled beginning in February and running through April 16.

The service is by appointment only.

Customers can call (224) 535-9856 to make an appointment.

The in-person appointments will be scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays in the Main Library's Grove Room. In-person appointments may have to be delayed depending on the status of in-person programming at the library.

The library is collaborating with Free For You Services to offer the tax preparation assistance.
