The appointment is being made after a three-month process where a community survey was conducted and interviews were held with the village president and with the board of trustees.

He also served on the West Suburban Homicide Task Force. In 2014, he was promoted to deputy chief where he oversaw the daily operations of the police department, including budgeting and payroll, the development and implementation of department policies and procedures; served as the training, risk management and grant coordinator and Freedom of Information Act officer. Krull retired in 2017 and then served as a protective security officer and was then promoted to corporate security and safety supervisor with the ACE Hardware Corp. Most recently he served as an Illinois Commerce Commission police officer.

Krull holds a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University. He is also a graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety's School or Police Staff and Command and its Executive Management Program; and the Police Executive Research Forum's (PERF) Senior Management in Policing Program.

Krull has been recognized with numerous awards and commendations for leadership, as the Elder Service Officer of the Year; and has received the Riverside Officer of the Year Award and the Cook County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Award of Valor.

On his appointment, Krull stated, "I am honored to have been chosen as the new chief of police for the Village of Maple Park Police Department. I look forward to working with the residents, businesses, elected officials and police department members to continue building upon the success of the Village of Maple Park and the police department. I am also looking forward to implementing new programs in the village and to revisit past programs that benefit the residents of the village. I also would like to thank President Fahnestock and the board of trustees for the opportunity to serve the village of Maple Park."
