Chicago man charged with firing gun into air in Naperville

Naperville police have charged a Chicago man with firing a gun into the air near his girlfriend's head Thursday night.

Ryan S. Mlady, 35, of the 2300 block of West Diversey Avenue, faces one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery.

According to DuPage County court records, Mlady shot a Taurus GTC 9 mm pistol into the air off a balcony a few feet away from his ex-girlfriend's head. Mlady also is accused of punching her in the head.

Police say they responded at 7:38 p.m. to the 1800 block of Michigan Avenue. The caller said a person was suicidal and had access to guns.

As police helped a woman leave the apartment, a man left the apartment and fired into the air, police said. A special response team and crisis negotiators were at the scene for several hours. Police said they found several guns in the apartment.
