Sign up for Gail Borden's holiday events, workshops

The Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin is offering "Family Holiday Fun!"

Experience the warmth and joy that comes at this time of year. Families will enjoy sharing special activities together such as virtually visiting Alaska, feasting on books, and even creating a gingerbread house.

Best Picture Books of the Year:

11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Dec. 1, on Facebook Live, gbpl.info/FBLV. Join Miss Katie for book talks highlighting "the best of the best" picture books from 2021's publishing crop. It is a great opportunity to discover holiday gifts for little ones. It will be available on Facebook to watch at your leisure after live performance.

Holiday Posada:

6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, on Facebook Live: gbpl.info/FBLV. In the tradition of posadas, join the Genesis choir of the San Lorenzo Church as it serenades you with popular carols from your home with your loved ones. Then they will have a bilingual story and a dance class.

Winter Dance Party:

6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, and 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, in the Meadows Community Rooms at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

Kids, ages 2 to 6, are invited to move and groove to some favorite wintertime songs and stories. Register at gailborden.register.

Baking for Kids:

4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, on Facebook Live, gbpl.info/FBLV.

Join Miss Jen to learn how to make mint chocolate chip pie just in time for the winter holiday season.

Family Gingerbread House Workshop:

6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, via Zoom.

Work together as a family to design and create a gingerbread house. Then join on Zoom for stories and a visit from a very special guest. One kit per family. Register at gailborden.info/register.

Alaskan Reindeer Farm:

1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, via Zoom.

Meet and greet real reindeer on this virtual trip to the tundra of Alaska. Register for the Zoom link at gailborden.info/register.

Winter Art Class for Preschoolers:

10 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 27-28, in the Sally Lee Rooms at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

A guest artist from the Old Town School of Folk Music will lead a special creative art class for ages 3-6 with a parent or caregiver. Register at gailborden.info.

Happy Noon Year Party:

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, in the Meadows Community Rooms at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin, and the South Elgin Branch, 127 S. McLean Blvd.

For kids, ages 3-6. Put on a fancy outfit and ring in the New Year early with stories, songs and activities. Register at gailborden.info/register.
