DuPage County Board approves new district map

DuPage County Board members voted Tuesday to approve new county board district boundaries for the next decade.

The county board is required by state law to complete the reapportionment process every 10 years following the U.S. Census to ensure each county board district represents a substantially equal number of people.

The approved map shows no more than a 1% difference in population between districts, meeting a goal set by the county's redistricting committee.

Jim Zay, the chairman of the redistricting committee, said the panel set a goal to keep villages and cities in the same district to the greatest extent possible.

"From the beginning, our goal has been to create a fair map that keeps communities intact," Zay said in a statement. "I'm proud of the county board for putting politics aside to create a fair, transparent, bipartisan map."

DuPage's redistricting committee was established in January 2021 and held 11 meetings and four open house forums to discuss the maps.
