Oswego man found guilty of sexually abusing child

An Oswego man was found guilty of sexually abusing a child, authorities said.

Mark A. Hampton, 48, of the 600 block of Mansfield Way, was charged with the Class X felony of predatory criminal sexual abuse of a child, according to a news release from the Kane County state's attorney.

Kane County Assistant State's Attorneys Lori Schmidt and Stacey Wittman presented evidence that Hampton sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13 he knew between November 2015 and August 2017, the news release said.

Hampton's next court appearance is set for Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. in Courtroom 311 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing, according to the release. Hampton faces a sentence of between 12 and 120 years of imprisonment.

In addition, Hampton must register for life as a sex offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration act, the news release said.

Hampton's bond was revoked upon conviction and he was taken into custody at the Kane County jail, according to the news release.
