Naperville man dies from gunshot wound in Evanston

A Naperville man was fatally shot in Evanston Sunday, while a Chicago man was stabbed in what investigators believe is a related incident.

About 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Evanston police responded to a 911 call on the 2000 block of Wesley Avenue. Officers located 45-year-old Van T. Ross of Naperville with a gunshot wound and a 27-year-old Chicago man who had stab wounds.

Both men were taken to the hospital by the Evanston Fire Department.

Ross died from his injuries at 4:51 p.m. according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Evanston police said the Chicago man was in stable condition.

Both the Evanston Police Detective Bureau and North Regional Major Crimes Task Force are investigating. No suspects are in custody, and officials said this does not appear to be a random act.

Anyone with information about the crime should call (847) 866-5040 or text a tip to CRIMES (274637) and start the message with EPDTIP.
