Boys golf: South Elgin claims UEC title

Ty Doty and his South Elgin teammates undoubtedly had Gordon Brown on their collective minds on Wednesday.

The South Elgin boys golf coach, Brown has vowed to make a full recovery while forced to miss the current season due to cancer treatments.

Doty fired a medalist-earning 2-over par 73 at St. Andrews in West Chicago as the Storm defended its Upstate Eight Conference championship with a 326-332 victory over Glenbard South.

Nick Zaimins (82) Matthew Jachim (85) and Nic Heinrich (86) were equally responsible for South Elgin in its 6-shot win over the Raiders.

Doty had back-to-back birdies to close out his individual championship effort.

West Chicago senior Danny Bowen (77) was the only other player to break 80.

Brock Lange and Brian Uvodich were third and fourth overall to lead Glenbard South.

Zaimins was fifth in a tiebreaker with Glenbard East state veteran Matthew Guthrie.

West Chicago (352), Glenbard East (361), Fenton (362), Bartlett (367), Elgin (422) and Streamwood (460) were third through eighth; Larkin and East Aurora did not field full teams.
