The disclosures we need
I liked your article on elected officials financial disclosures, which is nothing but a sop to us taxpayers, trying to show us how honest our elected officials are. The disclosures are as phony as a three-dollar bill or a balanced budget.
I do not want to see the tax returns of a candidate running for office. I want to see the tax returns of a career politician who becomes a millionaire on government pay. I want to see a list of friends and relatives on the government payroll or probably more importantly on government contracting rolls.
Let us list all spouses and relatives getting government money either salary or contracting or lobbying. Sen. Durbin's wife was a lobbyist, as was Sen. Mitch McConnell (also a cabinet member), and who can count the number of relatives of on the state payroll of our elected officials?
Just show the amount of money and pension money flowing into the families of all elected officials.
