Flags at the Naperville Riverwalk commemorate Sept. 11

As a special commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, Naperville Park District staff has created a flag tribute along the Riverwalk to honor the first responders and victims of this tragic event and to add to the remembrance planned for Saturday, Sept. 11.

"Similar to the past Healing Field events on Rotary Hill, we wanted to display flags this weekend to honor those who lost their lives 20 years ago," said Executive Director Ray McGury. "Our dedicated park staff made a special effort to make this happen."

The flags are on display along the Riverwalk on both sides of the river near the Cmdr. Dan Shanower Memorial, where the commemorative ceremony will take place on Saturday, Sept. 11 beginning with a musical tribute at 8:30 a.m.
