District 128 Community Education presents fall lineup

Interested in learning a new language, participating in a culinary experience or exploring a new skill or hobby?

The Community High School District 128 Community Education program offers lifelong learning opportunities for adults, youth and families, and strives to provide affordable, high-quality programs, in both in-person and live online class formats.

Learn a new skill this fall or learn skills that will prepare you for a new career in 2022. Community Education online partnerships provide more than 1,300 courses and certificate programs in varied content areas for career and personal, professional and advanced career development.

Partnerships with local businesses and organizations are an important element in the success of the program.

Reservations for travel destinations offered in 2021, 2022 and 2023 through Destinations with Nadine, and District 214 Community Education Travel Programs are currently being made.

New partnerships this term include Jim Gibbons Historical Presentations, Mindful Vagabond, Tada Cookies, Code Wizards HQ, the Vernon Hills Police Department, the University of Illinois Extension, Estevan Montano, the Lake County Forest Preserve District and the Lake County Audubon Society, to name a few.

Arts

The Arts section features Slate Cheese Board and Wineglasses, Calligraphy, Festival of Autumn Watercolors, Photography ... Well Shoot!, Belly Dancing and East Coast Swing Dance.

Culinary

Learn to prepare new culinary creations, cook for those with food allergies, or try new recipes to impress family and friends or make new holiday desserts.

Culinary class offerings include: Cheese and Charcuterie Board, Cooking for Food Allergies and Restricted Diets, A Little Sausage and Meatballs, One Pot Weeknight Dinners, Basic Cookie Decorating, Fresh Made Cannoli, Pumpkin Roll and Cranberry Tart, Holiday Mocktails, Italian Fruit Tart - Crostata di Frutta Dessert with Gale Gand, and more.

Finance, Real Estate and Law

New classes in this category are Savvy Social Security and Medicare for Boomers and The 4 Ways to Deal With Market Risk. Other classes include Rejuvenate Your Retirement, Financial Strategies for Successful Retirement, The Do's and Don'ts of Getting Your House Ready to Sell, and Wills and Trusts.

Health, Wellness and Fitness

Creating an Autoimmune Life Balance, How to Find Reliable Health Information, Self-Care for Graceful Aging, Tai Chi And QiGong, Walk 15 and Yoga will provide ways to learn healthy approaches to life, fitness and stress relief.

Kung Fu will focus on one traditional Shaolin form called Xiao Hong Quan.

Classes that may help with healthy food choices include How To Get Your Picky Eater to Try (and like) New Foods, Sugar Blues 101: Understanding Sugar Cravings, and Sugar Blues 102: Overcoming Sugar Addiction.

Pet Nutrition and Pet Natural Healthcare with Essential Oils will focus on the healthiest diet for dogs and cats and pet health.

Languages

Classes include Italian Beginning or Intermediate or Spanish Beginning.

Special Interest

Harvey Wittenberg, Chicago Blackhawks sports announcer and author, will present Everything Chicago Blackhawks.

Educational staff from the Lake County Forest Preserve District will teach about Landscaping for Wildlife and Woodpeckers of Lake County. Upcoming Lake County Audubon Society program topics may include shorebird identification, reducing your carbon footprint and insect decline.

Gardening classes include Composting, Fall Vegetable Gardening, Indoor Gardening and Spring Bulbs.

Members of the Vernon Hills Police Department will give tips for home and personal safety in Crime Prevention, Safety and Security Strategies.

Technology

Learn Excel or PowerPoint; learn how to sell your goods online in eBay Selling for Beginners; be safe online with Should I Click On That?; or, finally, Cut the Cable Cord?

Youth technology classes include Animation and Interactive Games with Scratch, Introduction to Programming with Python and Python Programming.

A few other new classes include Children's Theatre Performance of "Mary Poppins Jr."; Introduction to Amateur Radio; Illinois' Most Haunted Locations; The 1950s: Elvis, Eisenhower, Lucy and So Much More; Introduction to Kayaking; Travel Apps; Atypical Globetrotting; and more.
