Submitted by John Steven Vita Communications

Launched on Feb. 27, the Vernon Township COVID vaccination outreach program celebrates a two-month anniversary with more than 3,600 calls made by over 100 volunteers, reaching more than 7,000 residents.

The Township will now launch a free program to help residents get to vaccination appointments.

"We are excited by the response to our outreach program, and feel that, so far, it has been a big success," Vernon Township Board Supervisor Jonathan Altenberg said.

"Today, we are announcing the launch of the Vernon Hills COVID vaccination ride assistance program, helping Vernon Hills residents with transportation challenges to get vaccinated.

"The current situation is that there is vaccine hesitancy from large parts of our population, and we need to get to herd immunity before the virus mutates."

Vernon Township provides services to residents in all or portions of the villages of Buffalo Grove, Indian Creek, Lincolnshire, Long Grove, Mettawa, Mundelein, Riverwoods, Vernon Hills, the city of Lake Forest, and unincorporated Vernon Township.
